  • You can study whilst working full-time.

About the Course

A management project is normally completed during the second year, when individual support is provided on a flexible basis. There are joining points in September and January.

Course Content

The course consists of six units, including:

  • Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
  • Operating a Cash Management and Credit Control System
  • Preparing Personal Tax Computations
  • Managing Systems and People in Accountancy
  • Contributing to the Management of Performance and Value - Analysing Costs and Monitoring Performance
  • Contributing to the Planning and Control of Resources - Budgeting, Forecasts and Comparisons with Actuals.

Assessment

The units are assessed by a mixture of in-class skills tests, workplace or simulated evidence, a work-based managerial project and AAT central examinations, which are scheduled for December and June annually.

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities in accountancy are well structured and wide-ranging. The AAT's qualification is based on actually doing the work so future employers know that as well as the underpinning knowledge, you have the skills and practical experience to perform and excel in an accounting role. Once you have qualified, you can become a full member of the AAT, as well as gaining the opportunity to move into Chartered Accountancy.

Next Steps

On successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress to the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting or the Accounting Foundation Degree (validated by the University of Northampton).
