Entry Requirements:
You must be working in a supervisory capacity or be able to gain experience at this level within an Early Years' setting. You will hold a level 3 child care-related qualification and be currently working within an early years' setting. It would be desirable to have a minimum of two years experience working at level 3.

About the Course
Eight modules will be studied over two years and across four semesters. Theoretical knowledge will be gained during attendance at College and work-based research, with guidance from a mentor, will link theory to practice.
Course Content
Year 1 core units:
- Reflection on Theory and Practice
- Child Development and Working with Individual Children
- Developing ICT and Managing Group Sessions
- Working with Others and Social and Legal Context of Childcare.
Year 2 core units:
- Researching Theory and Practice
- Developing Research Skills and Supporting Foundation Stage Children in Developing Personal, Social, Emotional and Physical Development
- Safeguarding Children and Supporting Foundation Stage Children in Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Mathematics
- Supporting Foundation Stage Children in Communication, Language, Literacy and Creative Development, and Working with Parents.
Assessment
Assessment of modules will be through either an assignment, research project and one multiple-choice examination. Observation of practice will be undertaken in the workplace to underpin theoretical knowledge and to assess leading practitioner skills.
Next Steps
Upon successful completion of the course, progress can be made to an appropriate top-up Degree programme at the University of Bedfordshire or to a course leading to Early Years Professional Status.
