Course Description:
The Chartered Institute of Marketing is the professional body for those employed in a marketing capacity and the CIM Professional Diploma is suitable for marketing professionals who aspire to work or who need greater awareness of working at marketing management level. You may decide that you wish to undertake the full qualification in one year by attending two sessions per week.

Marketing is a profession that offers challenges, excitement and variety. It also demands high levels of motivation, commitment, adaptability and perseverance. Not a career for the faint-hearted! Those who succeed are highly rewarded with several careers throughout the marketing spectrum both in house or with an agency.

The course aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge to manage marketing communications and brand support activities within an organisation. Also to provide an understanding of the concepts and practice of promotional activity at an operational level. Student learning will focus on the application of coordinated promotional activities, campaign development and the management of relationships with a variety of stakeholders, particularly customers and members of marketing channels.

It is ideal for marketing professionals concerned with managing the marketing process at an operational level, or for those who wish to build on their CIM certificate knowledge with a future marketing management role in mind.

Entry Requirements:
You will need to be over 18 years of age and be working in a marketing role. In addition, you should hold either the Certificate in Marketing, a degree in business or marketing, or an NVQ Level 3 in Marketing. Applications are welcome from students with these qualifications but with more than 3 years' experience at management level in marketing.

Course Content:
The CIM - Professional Diploma qualification consists of 4 modules, which are assessed either by an
examination or by a work-based assignment, at the end of each module. Students must enrol on each module separately.

MARKETING PLANNING (0051B-1/1):
Evaluation of the marketing planning process and its implementation in a range of marketing contexts including a detailed analysis of the internal and external marketing environments. Conduct a marketing audit and assess the findings in order to develop a marketing plan that is responsive to market and organisational changes and underpins the organisation's marketing strategy. Determine the importance of segmentation, targeting and positioning to develop effective strategies which are innovative, cost effective, valuable and maximise the potential of marketing opportunities successfully. Recognise the significance of retaining customers through relationship marketing.

DELIVERING CUSTOMER VALUE THROUGH MARKETING (0051A-1/1):
Develop and manage a brand and product portfolio in the context of the organisation's marketing strategies and objectives. Develop and implement an effective and efficient channel management strategy reflecting the needs of stakeholders. Develop an effective and innovative communications strategy and plan that clearly delivers the organisation's proposition to the market, through effective segmentation and targeting of internal and external markets. Utilise an innovative and effective integrated marketing mix to reinforce the organisation's brand values, overall marketing proposition and competitive advantage. Determine customer requirements for product and service delivery to ensure the marketing proposition is customer-focused, efficient and effective.

MANAGING MARKETING (0051C-1/1):
Recommend how a marketing function should be structured and managed to deliver competitive advantage. Prepare plans for showing how a team should be structured, selected, formed, managed and developed to demonstrate effective performance against objectives. Critically assess the organisation's resource needs and capabilities for the marketing team to manage marketing activities effectively and efficiently. Prepare appropriate budgets and accounting documentation to support the financial management of the marketing function its associated activities. Critically assess the ongoing financial situation including manageability of the budget, financial stability and success of the marketing function.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN MARKETING (0051D-1/1):
Identify the organisation's information needs, scope of research projects and resource capability to underpin the development of justified business cases, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies, to support marketing projects. Using project management tools and techniques, design, develop and plan significant marketing programmes effectively, in terms of quality, resource and delivery. Integrate a range of marketing tools and techniques to support the development and implementation of marketing projects. Monitor and measure the outcomes of marketing projects through the end-to-end project process.

Assessment:
Each module is assessed either by an examination in December or June or by a work-based assignment, depending on the module. You will need to register directly with Chartered Institute in Marketing as a member and register for exams. Upon successful completion of all 4 modules, students will receive the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing.

Additional Info:
Annual CIM membership will be approximately £160. Assessment fees are £75 per module. Books £50 per module. These costs are not included in the course fees.
