Money

If your lack of finance prevents you from attending college or continuing to study, you can apply for financial assistance from the College Learner Support Fund. This can be done by completing an application form, which is available from Admissions, Information & Enquiries or Reception at each campus.

HE Funding

Loans, Grants & Burseries

This is a new service which is due to ‘go-live' with effect from 16th March 2011. For further information on applying for HE funding please go to www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance All applications for HE funding for academic year 2011-2012 will need to be in by the closing date of 31st May 2011.

We will shortly be delivering Tutorials to go through some of the basic information and criteria for applying for HE funding and informing you as to what is available to you by way of loans, grants and burseries.

Once Tutorials have been delivered through College we will be able to give you 1-2-1 advice during our normal office opening times, just call the Welfare office on 684394 and we can book you an appointment.

Learner Support Fund

Learner Support funds are distributed according to criteria designed to benefit as many students as possible, subject to availability. There may be extra financial support available for students who are:

  • disabled and/or have learning difficulties
  • having mental health problems
  • in care or a care leaver
  • on probation, ex-offenders
  • young parents and/or lone parents
  • travellers
  • considered to be at risk
  • under 19 years and supporting themselves
  • undertaking basic education or English as a second language.

Adult Learning Grant (ALG)

Similar to the Education Maintenance Allowance, the Adult Learning Grant (ALG) is an attendance grant aimed at eligible students aged 19 and over who are studying for their first full-time level 2 qualification or their first full-time level 3 programme. The ALG is means tested and not available to students who are claiming 'out of work' benefits such as JSA, Income Support and Incapacity Benefit. The ALG can attract weekly payments of £10-£30 for term-time weekly attendance.
